Taco Seasoning

Taco Tuesday can be any day of the week! Even multiple days of the week. Tacos are definitely a favorite food for so many of us, but do tacos get a bad rap as an unhealthy food? Tacos can be a healthy dish. The best part about tacos is you make the decisions.

Want fresh guac with your taco? Go ahead!
How about chicken instead of beef? Absolutely!
Don’t want a shell? No problem!
Tacos can be as healthy as any other meal. Stick to what you know your body needs and use the “extra toppings” to taste, not as the main feature on your plate.

Taco tips
1- mix your own seasoning! Why? You get to control the heat and the extras in it. Prepackaged seasoning mixes can contain a lot of unwanted ingredients like excess salt, sugar, MSG, gluten, etc (have you ever read the labels?)
2- make extra seasoning. Put all your cute containers to good use! Make 3-4 times the amount of seasoning. For one thing, you’ll have tacos more often (Win!) and this makes homemade meals so much faster!
3- Mix your seasoning with water before adding to your protein. Start with 1 tablespoon seasoning to 1/2 cup water.
4- use sharp knives to slice your tomatoes
5- think outside the old taco shell! Try lettuce wraps, pepper boats, or just a big taco salad. Make your own taco board with all the fixings you’ll need. This sets you up to slow down and not overeat since everything is right in front of you and you’re not racing to eat the taco shell before it falls apart.

These shrimp tacos were amazing and guess what? So-so simple! On my plate you’ll find shrimp, mixed greens, garden tomatoes, cucumber and corn tortillas. That’s it!
